A nice group of 13, with some on vacation or ill. Welcome back to Sean and Tessy. We were reminded that next Wednesday is our meeting at the San Marcos Community Center (1 Civic Center Drive), 9-11 am. Please bring spouses or friends, and inform Phaya so she can plan the pastries, etc. The photographer may be able to come, so wear your better comfy clothes.
Also discussed were: (1) Remember to visit the AGNC website for updates (2) The deadline for the Hotels project is June 3 (see Bulletin Board page) (3) Artists Alliance is June 19 (4) June is the COAL abstract show for members (5) Oceanside Libraries shows coming up (6) Bring your logo design draft to the May 29 meeting so we can discuss (7) Dean mentioned it is possible to just walk in (free) to the Del Mar Fair on May 30th for the awards event, since the actual fair isn't open yet.
Six artists brought work to share. In particular, Phaya brought her quadriptych, created with gold leaf and alcohol inks, which have found a new home (i.e., 2-4 sold). Congrats, Phaya; and thanks for sharing the technique and process for the benefit of the group.

Fifteen members today, with three showing their work. Dean showed the alabaster horse head that has been accepted into the Del Mar Fair, while Steve brought another of his fantasy sculptures, and Sean brought a lovely seascape painting.
Phaya welcomed back Richard and Sean, who have been away for awhile, and looked forward to seeing more of their work soon.
Business: (1) Upcoming shows include the AGNC shows in the Oceanside Libraries in July and August, and the COAL Open Show in August. OMA is accepting applications for the downtown hotels program through June 3. (2) Phaya recommended the San Dieguito Home and Garden Show this weekend (11 and 12th). (3) Reminder - bring suggestions/ideas for a revised group logo to the last meeting in May (29th).
The group meeting on May 22nd will be held at the Hearth Gallery San Marcos Community Center as a mini-reception for our show there. San Marcos will provide coffee and tea, and Phaya will coordinate food. It was suggested that a preliminary group photo be taken at that meeting.

MAY 1, 2019 - Grandma's/Oceana (by Barry Robson)
Great turnout of nineteen members, with six showing old and new works.
Congratulations to the 10 members who had art work accepted by Jazzercise for the upcoming lease period. AGNC members accounted for 23 of the 69 pieces accepted. GO AGNC.
Approximately 43 paintings and 17 sculptures were submitted for our San Marcos exhibition. Phaya will hang the pictures tomorrow (May 2nd) and Barry will complete the sculpture installation. Thanks to everyone for responding to our plea for art at last weeks meeting. Phaya suggested we hold our May 16 meeting at the exhibition so everyone can see the show. No formal reception is planned.
Part 2 of the Blast (what jurors look for when selecting): Having an appropriate Title is important (some artists even write a title on back of canvas before starting); WOW factor - have something that stands out and makes a lasting impression on the juror.

APRIL 24, 2019 - Grandma's/Oceana (by Barry Robson)
Eighteen members turned out this week, with eight showing examples of their work.
Discussion: (1) A painting of a Lioness on a dried palm frond, done by Jaime Dreyfus, was presented to Artura, our regular server, in appreciation of his excellent service during our regular weekly meetings. (2) Phaya announced that we would have to hang our pictures at the San Marcos Hearth gallery next week, as well as prepare Title Cards, as gallery staff will not be doing this. There is space for over 50 paintings at the Gallery. (3) Phyllis read an extract from a Blast she received from a previous class instructor describing what Jurors look for when selecting pieces for a show. First, ALWAYS submit the maximum number of pieces allowed. Second, have a THEME. More tips from a juror's point of view to come in future blasts.
Steve read an extract from the book, Art and Fear, by David Bayles and Ted Orlane, entitled "Operating Manual For Not Quitting."
A - Make friends with others who make art, and share your work in-progress with each other,
B - Learn to think of [A], rather than MOMA, as a destination for your work (think of it this way - if all goes well, MOMA will eventually come to you.)

Another great turnout (18) with eight sharing completed and/or in-progress work; and two sculptures - one glass, and one bronze.
We are planning to have a group photo taken for marketing our talents, and to display when we are exhibiting at various venues. FEBRUARY 20, 2019 - Grandma's/Oceana (by Barry Robson)
Seventeen artists attended with nine sharing examples of their work (see below; click to enlarge).
Phaya advised that there is a relatively large locked display cabinet available for showing sculptures at the San Marcos Community Center for our exhibit there in May and June this year. It is approximately 6 feet wide and 18 to 20 inches deep with three glass shelves. Shelf heights are 17 inches, 12 inches, and 16 inches. Check the GALLERIES page for other opportunities.
Phaya asked if anyone knew of a photographer to take a group AGNC photo. Cindy to check on a possible contact. A couple of suggestions were made for our Backwall Show at COAL in April - small black and white or limited pallet canvases for the small north wall, in addition to 'up to two pieces' per artist on the back wall. Will follow up at next meeting.

DECEMBER 19, 2018 - Hacienda de Vega
A great crowd today for our Holiday Party/Art Exchange. 19 artists brought wrapped art pieces ranging from acrylics, oils, watercolors, digital photography, and wood carvings. No one left disappointed in what they received. The quality of all the pieces was extremely high, and the "white elephant" style exchange brought lots of groans as a prized piece was hijacked, or whoops of joy when a piece was safe. Thanks everyone for participating in the fun.
