"The Journey Through Colors and Matter by Christine Ames"
[Excerpted from L’Ortica de Venerdi, Italy - May 2025]

Christine’s is a journey that focuses on line, color, shape and the relationships between them -  oriented towards a constantly evolving process of compositional balance. Several exhibitions have been held to date and works have appeared in some American art magazines.
The Cerveteri countryside, northwest of Rome, Italy, inspires many of her works, as do nature, science and architecture. Dedicated to the abstract, her paintings are journeys that look at experimentation, juxtapositions, overlapping materials and chromatic intersections. Work begins with acrylic, then inks, charcoals and collages are introduced.
Picture
Christine Ames’ works draw the gaze from silent (but never truly still) visions to views with extended boundaries; to spaces of color that often expand. Light and its reflections dominate the interiors:  “Orizzonti mutevoli” is a vision that immerses itself in harmony and silence; while “Il soggiorno” defines  each of its spaces through important expressive traits and chromatic contrasts.

NCAG/COAL FEATURED ARTIST, JUNE 2022 - Joan Yap

Picture
Once again, an AGNC member has been honored at the North Coastal Art Gallery in Carlsbad - our colleague, Joan, who poses beside her Best of Show piece, "Amish Child on Train."
     The Artist's Statement reads:
Joan's exhibit represents the various stages of her art career: Earlier works are mainly pen and ink drawings using the crosshatching technique; sometimes with a hint of watercolor for emphasis. She later explored watercolor and oil painting, and currently has developed a passion for photography and digital art. Her photographs capture the lighting and mood of a particular setting or unique moment; and with the use of photo-editing software, her digital art transforms images into abstract colors, lines and shapes.

October 2019   |   Featured Artist Dean Butterfield
Picture

Sculptural Works in Wood, Stone and Bronze.

Dean was first inspired to sculpt in wood following a visit to the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, British Columbia the summer of 2011. In 2013, Dean took up stone sculpture at the Laguna College of Art & Design in Laguna Canyon. Dean later enrolled in Saddleback College, where bronze would be the next medium for him to explore. He continues to be both student and artist honing his craft.
Dean now lives in Oceanside, and does most of his work in Fallbrook. “In retrospect, the qualities, talents and skills of the young marine, the land surveyor, and the adventurer had found new form in the man as an artist,” he notes. “I am inspired by the places that I’ve been and things that I know. Shape, form, line, exactness, the singing geckos of Costa Rica, the long wing of an Alaskan Golden Eagle, a mother and child and the angels that I’ve known. The polar bears and penguins represent adventures still to come.” –Butterfield
